The Government of the Punjab’s Finance Department, issued a notification on 27 August 2025 regarding the financial assistance package for the families of civil servants who die while in service. The decision was approved by the Punjab Cabinet during its 28th meeting on 5 August 2025.
Under the new policy, the entitlement for financial assistance has been formally detached from the Punjab Civil Services Pension Rules, specifically Rule 4.10. Previously, financial assistance was processed within the pension framework, which often caused administrative delays and confusion. By making financial assistance a separate provision, the government has established a clearer and more direct mechanism for support.
The notification defines the family members eligible for financial assistance in the event of a civil servant’s death during service. Eligibility is limited to the following:
These criteria are intended to provide clarity and consistency in determining who may claim benefits, reducing ambiguity in implementation.
The notification has been circulated to all relevant government offices, including the Accountant General Punjab, District Accounts Officers, and the Treasury Officer Lahore. The Government Printing Press has been instructed to publish the notification in the official gazette. Departments have been directed to apply the revised policy with immediate effect to ensure timely support for eligible families.
The revision marks an important step in streamlining welfare measures for government employees. By separating financial assistance from pension entitlements and clearly outlining the categories of eligible family members, the government has sought to minimize procedural delays and provide direct relief to families facing the loss of a breadwinner during service.
