Armed dacoits carried out a violent attack late Wednesday night on the M-5 Motorway near Bhong Sharif, opening fire on passing vehicles, injuring several people, and abducting at least 10 passengers and truck crew members.
Police said a group of heavily armed men ambushed the motorway, firing indiscriminately at every vehicle in sight. Multiple cars, two passenger coaches, and several trucks and trailers came under direct fire. Over a dozen vehicles were damaged, and many were left stranded after their tires were burst during the assault.
Among the injured were a woman and a child, who, along with two others, were critically wounded and shifted to Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Rahim Yar Khan.
The Motorway Police suspended traffic near the Guddu Interchange and service areas as security forces responded to the scene. Authorities later restored traffic following enhanced deployment along the route.
According to police sources, the attackers fled toward the Kacha riverine areas after the assault, abandoning several trucks on the motorway with their crew members missing. Eyewitnesses reported that around 10 people were taken away at gunpoint.
The attack comes days after police drone strikes on the hideouts of the Indhar gang in the kacha area, after which gang leader Tanveer Indhar issued threats in a video message. A case has been registered at Bhong Police Station.
