Pakistan Opener Bags ICC Player of the Month Nod

Pakistan’s in-form opener Muneeba Ali has been named among the three nominees for the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for August 2025, following her record-breaking exploits against Ireland last month.

The wicketkeeper-batter etched her name into the history books during the T20I series in Dublin, hammering her second career T20I century. Her 100 off 68 balls in the third match, laced with 14 boundaries and a six, not only set up Pakistan’s victory but also made her the first Pakistani woman to score multiple hundreds in T20 internationals.

She finished the series as Pakistan’s top performer with the bat, amassing 132 runs at an average of 66. Remarkably, both her T20I hundreds have come against Ireland, the first arriving during the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

Muneeba Ali will have to overcome two rising European stars for the honour. Ireland’s Orla Prendergast earned her nomination after scoring 144 runs and picking up four wickets in the 2–1 victory over Pakistan; the 23-year-old also notched the Player of the Series award. Netherlands all-rounder Iris Zwilling is the third nominee.

If successful, Muneeba Ali will become the fourth Pakistani after Nida Dar, Sidra Ameen, and Tuba Hassan to win an ICC Player of the Month award.

The winner will be decided through public voting combined with a panel of ICC experts. For Muneeba, a win would mark another milestone in a career steadily becoming a source of pride for Pakistan women’s cricket.
