History Made: Ayesha Gul Becomes KPK’s First Female SSP

For the first time in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s history, a woman has been appointed as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).

Ali Ayesha Gul, a native of Swabi district, has been appointed as the SSP Investigation for Peshawar. The Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police issued the official notification confirming her new posting. As SSP Investigation, Gul will oversee all inquiry and investigative operations in the provincial capital.

Gul is a Grade-18 officer from the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP). She previously served as Additional Inspector General (AIG) Gender, where she focused on policy and operations related to gender-based policing. Her work involved efforts to make law enforcement more responsive to gender-specific challenges in the province.

She recently returned to Pakistan after completing a professional training course abroad. Reports indicate that the training was part of a capacity-building initiative for mid-career police officers and focused on leadership, investigative techniques, and policy implementation.

Her appointment has been widely noted as a major development in advancing women’s roles in law enforcement across the province. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, traditionally known for its conservative social structure, had never before appointed a woman to an SSP-level position within its investigative units.
