The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed match officials for Pakistan’s high-stakes home series against South Africa, set to run from 12 October to 8 November.
The tour includes two Tests, three T20Is, and three ODIs, crucial fixtures for Pakistan’s campaign in the ICC World Test Championship 2025–27 and its build-up to next year’s global tournaments.
Notably absent from the list is Zimbabwe’s Andy Pycroft, whose controversial role in the 2025 Asia Cup led to his removal from the series. Pycroft was initially slated to serve as match referee but was dropped following the PCB’s formal objection.
Sources close to the board reveal that Pycroft allegedly instructed Pakistan’s Salman Ali Agha to avoid greeting India’s Suryakumar Yadav, reportedly under pressure from the BCCI. The incident, dubbed “handshake-gate,” sparked outrage within the PCB and drew criticism from fans and officials alike. Although Pycroft later issued an apology, the Pakistan government reportedly barred him from entering the country, citing diplomatic and sporting sensitivities.
In his place, Sri Lanka’s Ranjan Madugalle, one of the most respected figures in international cricket, will oversee the series as match referee. His appointment brings credibility and calm to a contest already brimming with anticipation.
