SUPARCO Reveals Time for Seeing Supermoon in Pakistan

Stargazers are in for a treat as the first of three supermoons in 2025 will illuminate the night sky on Tuesday, October 7, according to the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO).

A supermoon occurs when the Moon reaches its closest point to Earth in its elliptical orbit, making it appear larger and brighter than usual—up to 14 percent bigger and nearly 30 percent brighter than a typical full moon.

SUPARCO said the supermoon will reach its peak at 8:47 p.m. Pakistan time, rising in the east shortly after sunset and setting in the west before dawn. During this event, the Moon will be about 224,599 miles (361,457 kilometers) from Earth, appearing 6.6 percent larger and 13 percent brighter than an average full moon.

Skywatchers will also be able to spot Saturn near the Moon on Monday and Tuesday evenings, adding to the spectacle. The space agency noted that the brightest supermoon of the year is expected on November 5, when the Moon will be just 221,817 miles (356,980 km) away from Earth.

The October supermoon will be visible not only in Pakistan but across much of the world, promising a dazzling view for astronomy enthusiasts everywhere. Two more supermoons are set to follow in November and December.
