The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has decided to construct a new expressway linking Arfa Karim Tower to Pine Avenue Raiwind Road, with the project’s PC-1 already prepared and submitted for approval.
The LDA has also sought a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA).
According to LDA Chief Engineer Israr Saeed, the estimated cost of the project exceeds Rs. 9 billion. He said the expressway would be an environmentally friendly development and provide a major relief for city traffic by creating a new alternative route.
The project is expected to ease pressure on Kalma Chowk by diverting thousands of vehicles directly from Arfa Karim Tower to southern Lahore. In the first phase, construction will extend from Arfa Karim Tower to Maulana Shaukat Ali Road.
Officials said that a topographic survey from Arfa Karim Tower to Pine Avenue has already been completed. The expressway will feature a three-lane dual carriageway and is being described as a landmark project.
The finalized PC-1 is expected to be presented to the Planning and Development Department for approval in the coming days.
