A man set his mother-in-law on fire after failing to reconcile with his estranged wife. The horrifying incident took place in the Mailsi area of Punjab.
According to reports, the suspect’s wife had left him and returned to her parents’ home following a domestic dispute. The man went there in an attempt to convince her to return, but when his efforts failed, he lost his temper and allegedly poured petrol on his elderly mother-in-law, setting her ablaze.
Hearing the woman’s screams, neighbors rushed to the scene, but the suspect managed to escape before they could stop him. The locals immediately alerted police and rescue teams, who arrived at the scene and shifted the victim — identified as Iqbal Mai — to a nearby hospital.
Doctors later confirmed that around 30 percent of her body, including her arms and back, had sustained burn injuries, though her condition is said to be stable.
Police have recorded statements from the victim, her daughter, and several witnesses. A search operation has been launched to arrest the suspect, identified as Aamir Sohail. Authorities expressed confidence that he would be apprehended soon.
