Renowned actress Hania Aamir has been named the new National Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations (UN) Women Pakistan.
In its official statement, UN Women Pakistan said that Hania Aamir will use her influence to raise awareness, inspire collective action, and amplify the voices of women and girls across the country. The organization expressed its commitment to working with her toward a future where “every woman and girl can realize her full potential—free from violence, discrimination, and inequality.”
With this appointment, Hania joins a distinguished group of UN Women goodwill ambassadors from South Asia, including Farhan Akhtar and Sania Mirza from India. Globally, UN Women ambassadors include Emma Watson, Nicole Kidman, and Anne Hathaway.
Hania is the second Pakistani to hold this title after Muniba Mazari, who was appointed in 2015. Other national UN ambassadors from Pakistan include Fawad Khan (UNDP), Mahira Khan (UNHCR), Shehzad Roy (UNODC), and Saba Qamar (UNICEF).
UN Women, the United Nations agency dedicated to gender equality and women’s empowerment, has been actively supporting women in Pakistan, particularly during crises. Following the recent devastating floods, the organization established Women Safe Spaces in affected areas, offering counseling, legal assistance, and childcare services.
With her strong social media presence and influence among the youth, Hania Aamir is expected to bring fresh energy and broader visibility to UN Women’s initiatives, encouraging greater engagement and awareness among young women nationwide.
