The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has awarded the contract for the construction of the long-awaited Shaheen Chowk underpass project.
According to CDA officials, the formal inauguration of the project is expected soon. The plan involves constructing an underpass at Khyaban-i-Iqbal — commonly known as Margalla Road — at its junction with 9th Avenue.
Under the new design, traffic on Khyaban-i-Iqbal will move through the underpass, while vehicles using 9th Avenue will travel on the upper slab.
The Shaheen Chowk junction frequently experiences heavy traffic during rush hours due to the presence of several government offices and educational institutions in the vicinity. Officials said the new project will significantly reduce travel time and improve road safety in the area.
Meanwhile, the CDA also shared an update on the T-Chowk Flyover, reporting that 46 percent of construction work has been completed. The Rs. 1.4 billion flyover, located at the junction of GT Road and the Islamabad Expressway, spans 1.1 kilometres and is being developed to provide smooth access to traffic entering Islamabad from Lahore and Punjab.
