Will 27 October be a Public Holiday in Pakistan?

As October 27 approaches, many Pakistanis are asking whether the day — observed annually as Kashmir Black Day — will be declared a public holiday.

The government of Pakistan, however, has not included October 27 in its official list of public or optional holidays for 2025.

Each year, Kashmir Black Day is observed to mark October 27, 1947, when Indian forces entered Srinagar and took control of Jammu and Kashmir.

The day symbolizes the beginning of India’s illegal occupation of the region and is remembered as a dark chapter in the history of South Asia.

While the day is not an official holiday, it holds deep national and emotional significance for Pakistanis and Kashmiris across the world.

Rallies, seminars, and solidarity events are organized every year to condemn Indian actions in Jammu and Kashmir and to reaffirm support for the Kashmiri people’s struggle for their right to self-determination.

Despite not being a holiday, October 27 continues to be a solemn reminder of the ongoing suffering in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Kashmiri cause.
