Pakistan’s impressive run at the Asian Youth Games continued on Monday as the national men’s volleyball team powered past Indonesia 3–1 in the semifinals, booking a spot in the final and guaranteeing at least a silver medal for a country that has so far struggled to make an impact on the continental stage.
Heading into the contest with five straight wins, Pakistan endured a shaky start in the semifinal as Indonesia took the opening set 25–22. Pakistan then responded in style, winning the next three sets 25–13, 25–19, and 26–24 to seal the victory. The comeback was marked by sharp attacking play, disciplined defense, and the team’s growing ability to stay composed under pressure.
Standout performers included Khizar Hayat, Muhammad Yahya, Muhammad Anas, and Ajmal Junaid, who have played key roles throughout the tournament with consistent serving, blocking, and precise spiking.
So far, the Pakistan volleyball team has dropped just two sets in their six victories — one to Saudi Arabia in the Top 8 Classification Stage and one to Indonesia in the semifinal — which should give them confidence heading into the finale against Asian volleyball powerhouse Iran, set to take place on Wednesday.
Iran cruised past Thailand 3–0 in the other semifinal to set up a high-voltage final between two regional giants who have enjoyed a lively volleyball rivalry on the junior stage in recent years.
Pakistan has only won one bronze medal at the Asian Youth Games so far, but they are now guaranteed another medal thanks to the volleyball team. However, their eyes are firmly set on gold. A win against Iran on Wednesday would not only cap off a flawless campaign but also signal the rise of a new generation in Pakistan’s volleyball scene.
