Quetta Qavalry has been forced to make a late change to its squad for the upcoming season of the Abu Dhabi T10 League, with Sikandar Raza making way for Azam Khan.
Sikandar Raza, who was initially named in the final squad for Qavalry’s debut season in the tournament, has been ruled out due to international commitments.
The team wasted little time in recruiting Pakistan’s power-hitting wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan as Raza’s replacement. The franchise confirmed the move on social media, welcoming Azam with a typically energetic post:
“Another big hitter gets into the saddle. Azam Khan is added to the Qavalry roster while Sikandar Raza fulfills national obligations. Khush Aamdeed, Impact Khan!”
Sikandar Raza, Zimbabwe’s T20 captain, is set to lead his national side in a home T20I series against Afghanistan beginning tomorrow, followed by a T20 tri-series in Pakistan later next month featuring Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe.
Azam Khan’s inclusion gives the Qavalry lineup a local boost, especially in the lower middle order. The 27-year-old, known for his explosive stroke play, already has experience with the team owners, having previously represented Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) between 2018 and 2021, where he built a reputation as one of the league’s most aggressive finishers. Since then, he has established himself as one of the most sought-after names in franchise cricket, taking his talents to the CPL, ILT20, GLT20, and BPL.
While his international T20 record — 88 runs in 14 innings — remains modest, Azam’s raw power and ability to clear boundaries make him a valuable addition in the fast-paced T10 format, where quick runs are everything.
Quetta Qavalry, one of the new entrants in this year’s Abu Dhabi T10, has assembled an impressive roster blending experience and flair. Their lineup features several Pakistani stars, including Mohammad Amir, Khawaja Nafay, Abbas Afridi, and Arafat Minhas, alongside Azam Khan.
The next season of the Abu Dhabi T10 League will take place from November 18 to 30. With Azam Khan’s addition, the Qavalry look even stronger heading into their debut season, and fans will be eager to see whether the big-hitting wicketkeeper can deliver his trademark fireworks in Abu Dhabi.
