OpenAI’s Video Maker App Sora is Now Available on Android

OpenAI has released its Sora video-generation app for Android users. This is the first time Sora is appearing on Google’s mobile platform after its initial debut on iOS last month.

Sora is now available for download from the Google Play Store, though it is not available in Pakistan just yet. The app can be accessed in seven countries for now, including the United States, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. OpenAI has not revealed when the app will reach other markets

AI Video Generation from Text and Images

Sora allows users to create short videos by entering text prompts or uploading images. The app uses OpenAI’s video generation technology to turn these inputs into animated or stylized clips. Users can choose from different video styles and have access to basic editing tools that help control pacing, visual tone, and structure.

The app is designed to support simple, fast content creation, especially for people with no video editing experience. It is aimed at individuals interested in storytelling, digital content, or experimenting with AI-generated visuals.

TikTok-Like Features

Sora also includes a social component. Users can browse and view public videos made by others, comment on them, and even remix them into new versions. The app supports collaboration, allowing users to work together or build on each other’s content, similar to other social apps such as TikTok and YouTube.

OpenAI has introduced a discovery system within the app that recommends trending or featured videos. This helps users explore new ideas and see how others are using the platform creatively.

Invite Code Removed in Select Regions

Previously, access to Sora required an invitation code. That requirement has now been removed in several regions, including those where the Android version has launched. New users in supported countries can now sign up and begin generating videos immediately.

OpenAI has not announced when the app will be available in more regions or if additional features will be added soon. However, the Android rollout suggests that the company is preparing for broader access in the coming months.
