Romania has proposed naming a road in its port city of Constanta as “Karachi Avenue” to honor its longstanding friendship with Pakistan.
The gesture aims to symbolize the growing connection between the two coastal cities and celebrate 61 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
The proposal emerged during a meeting between Romanian Ambassador Dr. Dan Stoenescu and Karachi Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi, where both sides discussed ways to strengthen ties through cultural, economic, and educational initiatives.
According to an official statement, a similar tribute is being considered in Karachi, where a road would be named “Constanta Avenue.” These reciprocal street names are intended to represent mutual respect and the shared maritime heritage of both port cities.
The meeting also covered several other projects to deepen bilateral cooperation. The Pakistan Romania Business Council (PRBC) will oversee the construction of a Friendship Monument in Karachi, envisioned as a landmark celebrating decades of partnership.
Ambassador Stoenescu thanked the Karachi administration for its support in identifying a location for the monument. He noted that Romania’s decision to reopen its Honorary Consulate in Karachi will further enhance business relations, facilitate trade, and foster cultural exchange between Sindh and Romania.
Discussions also included future collaboration in urban management, sustainable development, and education, particularly through student and faculty exchange programs and joint academic initiatives.
Both countries expressed interest in expanding private-sector cooperation to boost investment and trade opportunities between Karachi, Sindh, and major Romanian cities.

Friendship between Pakistan and Romania is very old sterngthened by SZA Bhutto, Ex Prime of Pakistan during his visit. A number of Pakistani students were granted scholarship for higher education who are still serving the nation. It is a true friendship based on mutual respect and hospitality of two nations…. Good Initiative by Romanian Government.
The road will be marked with potholes and overflowing gutters. Traffic rules will not apply and parking will be allowed any where drivers like. Hawkers will be free to place their wares anywhere they like.
