Karachi Issues New Rules for Roadside Hotels, Restaurants, and Cafes

The Commissioner of Karachi has issued new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) regulating roadside hotels, restaurants, and cafes in the city, aiming to ensure pedestrian safety and organized public spaces, 24NewsHD reported on Tuesday.

Under the newly implemented SOPs, businesses will be allowed to place chairs and tables on roads only under specific conditions.

Placement of furniture will be strictly prohibited on roads wider than 100 feet. Similarly, blocking footpaths, service lanes, or road shoulders is completely banned.

Restaurants and cafes seeking to place tables on roads between 60 and 100 feet wide must first obtain a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the relevant authorities.

On narrower roads, such as those five feet wide, businesses may place tables and chairs only if pedestrian movement remains unhindered.

Authorities have also emphasized that any permissions granted may be revoked if residents file complaints, ensuring that the SOPs prioritize public convenience and safety.

The Commissioner’s office stated that the strict implementation of these guidelines is crucial to maintaining pedestrian security and preventing obstructions in public areas.

  • what about the Vehicle repairing shops on road side, where the whole workshop at roads, and the 8×8 shop for sitting area.

  • Slaughtering a pig in an Islamic way doesn’t render it ‘Halal’.
Secondly, another way to legitimize personal pockets rather than government coffers.

  • What about the shops that extend their shop limits to the pedestrians and cause hurdles for the residents in the Saddar area?

  • It should not be allowed at all. Beside making the roads and footpaths dirtier, these food sellers get unfair advantage by encroaching upon the rights of common citizens.

  • Total collapse of administration in Karachi Sindh to allow ti keep chairs/tables on roads meant for vehicle traffic.

  • Who will follow your rules.
    Don’t play games with people’s
If you the capability, show your strength against encroachment

  • Wah Commissioner sahab!
Qabza karo, road block karo, phir ijazat bhi mil jaaye! 👏
    Law-abiding citizens = punished,
    Law breakers = rewarded! 😡

  • These are all Bogus Rules, The reality is all Commissioners and their Secretaries support Bribe ( بھتا ما فیا ) run by Town officers / Muncipal / officers , They allow Beggars, Chinchi , Ricksha, Fruit / Veg Carts on Every main road .and bribe is collected then distributed to highest post .
Karachi has become a heaven for these mafia and no place for honest public service office exist.

  • Nothing will be done, it is only for Three or Four days, than all things come on their previous positions. If Commissioner has all the Powers, then why rely upon Complain from public. And why they are allowed, and timely action Not taken against them, against hawkers/ Motor Mechanics etc, as well, when, they start occupying the road area/pedestarians walking place. The Authority must use their Authority.
