Samsung has announced a new conversational AI assistant, the Vision AI Companion, for its 2025 range of Neo QLED, Micro RGB, OLED, and QLED televisions. Unlike conventional AI assistants designed for single-user devices, Samsung says the Vision AI Companion is tailored for the “communal screen,” recognizing that TVs are often shared by multiple people at once.
Real-Time Translation and Enhanced Viewing
One of the standout features is Live Translate mode, which provides real-time translation of dialogue in television shows and movies. This allows viewers to watch content in their own language, even when no official dubbing is available.
Samsung has also introduced AI Picture, AVA Pro, and AI Upscaling Pro modes, all of which work to optimize both picture and audio quality. These enhancements are particularly useful for older content, including pre-4K and pre-HD videos. For gamers, the AI Gaming Mode delivers responsive optimization for both video and audio during gameplay.
Smart Interactions and Multimodal Support
The Vision AI Companion is designed for natural conversation, understanding context, and follow-up questions with ease. Dedicated AI buttons on the new TV remotes provide instant access, allowing users to request recommendations, ask for information, or even create new generative wallpapers for their TV screens.
The AI draws from a mix of real-time data and encyclopedic knowledge. For example, it can answer weather-related questions with up-to-date information or offer personalized recommendations for movies and cooking techniques.
With its multimodal capabilities, the assistant can also answer questions about what’s currently on the screen, whether it’s a film or a sports broadcast. This system builds on Samsung’s Bixby but extends to support third-party services such as Microsoft Copilot and Perplexity.
Language Support and Long-Term Updates
At launch, the Vision AI Companion will support 10 languages, including English, German, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, and Korean. Samsung will provide OS upgrades for its One UI Tizen platform for up to seven years, ensuring that new features and improvements reach existing TVs.
With the introduction of the Vision AI Companion, Samsung aims to deliver a more interactive and intelligent viewing experience for households worldwide.
