New Speed Limit Introduced on Karachi’s Busiest Road

Karachi authorities have installed speed limit signs along Shahrah-e-Faisal after the launch of the city’s e-challan system, aiming to regulate traffic and enhance road safety.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Admin) Kashif Nadeem said authorities have set the speed limit at 60 km/h for cars and jeeps, while heavy vehicles such as buses and trucks must adhere to a 30 km/h limit.

Motorcycles are also restricted to 60 km/h. Vehicles exceeding the prescribed speed will be automatically fined through the e-challan cameras installed along the road.

The Sindh government recently introduced the e-challan system to enforce traffic rules strictly while prioritizing the safety of citizens and protecting property.

Despite facing criticism from opposition parties and sections of the public, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon emphasized that the protection of lives and property remains the provincial government’s top priority.

  • Speed of a cycle and motorcycle are same as car and jeeps GOOD.
What about the rickshaws and mini buses are they exempted.

  • If it’s 60 on Sh. Faisal, it must be 20 on other destroyed roads of Karachi. Bhutto is still alive…

  • Wah.. i heard they were lowering the challan charges but found that they lowered the speed limit. Think of someone going to airport from saddar. Stupids!

  • sindh government is just nailing the wounds of karachi. they are ignorant when it comes to basic needs of citizens like health education security water electricity. citizens are forced to get treated from private hospitals. get education from private schools get security from private security companies and get water through private tanker service. and these people having swine shit in their skull are busy in implementing solutions by which they can snatch the halal money of the law abiding citizens and others are still roaming on roads without number plates without following law because these commercial vahicls pay bribe to the officials.

  • Besides speed limit which is slow, should be 70kph +being 4+ lane main artery of city provide public drives in lanes and follow slow and fast lane principal …. Heavy traffic at 30kph is too slow, should be 40~50kph….Though signal less but main issue is no lane following which causes traffic jams at intersections mainly, even through driving, motorcyclist simply don’t follow any lane concept plus zig zag driving.. .. Following lame will address traffic flow which otherwise a serious issue during rush hours

  • “Unnecessar Laws are not laws but Traps for money”! Where there isn’t any public nuisance concept to any authority of Khi., how do one can claim about general public safety here, it’s all nothing but a “window dressing”, infact!

  • These speed limits are ridiculous. This will cause very slow movement & congestion. Cars/ jeeps limits should be 80kmph plying in 3 & 4 lane. Buses/ heavy vehicles, mandatory plying only in slow lanes 1 & 2 on the left, at 40 kmph. Motor cycle 40 kmph mandatory plying only in slow lane 1 & .2

  • Speed limit at Sharah-e-Faisal must Not be less than 80 KMPH for LTV & 50 KMPH for HTV.

A Road user can’t move at his own if traffic congestion doen’t allow… but it it allows… a vehicle may move at 80 KMPH.

Restricting a vehicle at 60 & 30 KMPH may create unnecessary Slow Flowing Stream thereby meaning, more time on Karachi’s main Penetrant…

Speed is c9ntrolled by Traffic Congestion during Peak Hours…
If Not increased… to 80 & 50 KMPH, Peak Congestion Hours ‘ll increaseby a few Hours…

  • Motor cycles mei brake hi nahi hotay its in the manufacturing. I hv nvr seen any motor cyclist to ever stop or apply brake they drive so speedly to go to hell ASAP

  • My strong suggestion is to strictly enforce lane discipline on fast lanes. Cars should be allowed to maximise speed within legal limits, while motorcycles must remain in their designated lane, as per rules introduced years ago. No motorcycle should be permitted to enter other lanes.

Additionally, KMC cleaning loader rickshaws without number plates should be banned from main roads. Just yesterday, I saw such vehicles driving in the fast lane on Shahrah-e-Faisal, despite missing number plates. Strict action is needed to ensure road safety and compliance with traffic laws.
