Karachi has issued the largest e-challan in its history, slapping a Rs. 100,000 fine on a dumper driver. The penalty was imposed because the heavy vehicle was operating without a tracker, a violation that came to light after a high-speed dumper caused an accident in Razzaqabad.
Police said the vehicle had neither a tracker nor a valid fitness certificate, and authorities have also suspended the driver’s licence for three months.
A Rs. 100,000 challan has been issued to the dumper’s owner, Sher Zada, who has also been named in the FIR. If the fine is paid within 14 days, the amount will be reduced by half.
According to police, the case has been registered at Shah Latif Town police station on behalf of the state, nominating the vehicle owner, driver, and conductor.
The crash claimed the life of a rickshaw driver and left nine others injured, including children. Police have arrested both the dumper owner and the driver.
