Pakistan Fast Bowling Legend to Mentor Dhaka Capitals in BPL

Pakistan’s cricketing legend Shoaib Akhtar is set to add a new chapter to his post-retirement journey, as the former fast bowler has been appointed mentor of Dhaka Capitals for the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season.

The franchise confirmed the news through its official social media channels, marking a high-profile addition to the backroom staff.

Dhaka Capitals are no strangers to hiring Pakistani legends, having previously turned to another great, Saeed Ajmal, for guidance in their last campaign. This year, they have upped the ante by bringing in the “Rawalpindi Express,” a name synonymous with pace and passion, to help shape their squad.

For Shoaib Akhtar, this marks a major step in his post-retirement career. While he has become a familiar presence in Pakistan’s sporting media landscape, he has rarely taken mentorship or coaching roles since hanging up his boots. His outspoken views on cricket, delivered through television appearances and his widely followed YouTube channel, have kept him at the heart of cricketing conversations in Pakistan and beyond. However, he has only served as a team mentor once before, back in 2017 with Lahore Qalandars.

For Dhaka Capitals, the move signals intent. By bringing in a figure of Shoaib Akhtar’s stature, they aim to inject experience, intensity, and a winning mentality into their dressing room. For Pakistani fans, it is another reminder of how the country’s cricketing icons continue to shape the sport globally, long after their playing days are over.

The next BPL season is set to begin in December, and the three-time winners (as Dhaka Gladiators and Dhaka Dynamites) will be banking on Shoaib Akhtar’s experience to add another trophy to their cabinet.
