The Pakistan hockey team has suffered a significant blow ahead of its FIH Pro League debut, as the planned series against Spain has been scrapped, leaving the side with no choice but to head straight into the fire of Pro League action in Argentina.
According to sources, the decision was driven by severe time constraints and unavoidable logistical hurdles, with Pakistan having recently played a three-match series against Bangladesh. With the Pro League window fast approaching, arranging a stopover in Spain became unworkable, forcing the team management to streamline travel and planning for the main event.
Pakistan will now fly directly to Argentina in the first week of December, where they are slated to begin their Pro League campaign. An announcement regarding the squad for the preparatory camp is expected within the next couple of days.
The opening fixtures will not be easy. Pakistan begin their journey against the Netherlands on 10 December, followed by matches against Argentina on 12 December, the Netherlands again on 13 December, and a second clash with Argentina on 15 December.
Despite missing out on matches this year, Pakistan and Spain are scheduled to meet in the Pro League fixtures next year.
While missing out on the Spain warm-up matches is a setback, team officials remain hopeful that early arrival in Argentina and focused preparation will help Pakistan settle before the tournament’s opening whistle.
