Mohammad Amir and his team Quetta Qavalry are flying in their debut Abu Dhabi T10 League season, but the former Pakistan international has singled out one player, earmarking him for future success with the national team.
Amir’s praise was directed at Khawaja Nafay, who has strengthened his case for an international cap with another impressive tournament. With 144 runs in four innings, 12 sixes, and not a single dismissal so far, the 23-year-old has forced the cricketing world to take notice — and Amir believes Pakistan should too.
Speaking after a game, Amir described Nafay as one of Pakistan cricket’s brightest future assets. “He is extremely hardworking, and that is his biggest strength,” Amir said. “If he keeps his focus, he can soon become a key contributor to Pakistan cricket.”
Nafay’s calmness under pressure and his ability to clear the ropes with ease have stood out in a format where bowlers often struggle to contain batters. His batting has looked effortless, something Amir credited to the youngster’s discipline and hunger.
The Pakistan Cricket Board appears to have taken notice as well. While Nafay still awaits his debut cap, the PCB has allowed him to participate in franchise competitions worldwide to gain valuable experience and has invited him to expanded training camps as part of its search for a new crop of players capable of playing modern cricket. If his form continues, more voices are likely to join Mohammad Amir in calling for Nafay’s inclusion in the national team.
For now, Mohammad Amir and Nafay will look to keep Quetta Qavalry unbeaten in the T10 League when they face Vista Riders on Thursday.
