PHA Begins Major Restoration of Pakistan’s Famous Garden

The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has kicked off a large-scale restoration effort aimed at bringing back the classic charm of Bagh-i-Jinnah (Lawrence Gardens). The project focuses on reviving the famous Rose Garden and reintroducing several rare species of flowers.

A press statement said that PHA Managing Director Raja Mansoor Ahmad ordered the initiative after visiting the garden a few days earlier. His instructions led to the formal launch of the Rose Garden’s rehabilitation work.

Bagh-i-Jinnah once featured around 200 rose varieties. While many of these have survived over the years, the garden still maintains 165 distinct types.

To enrich this collection, PHA has started planting 35 additional rose varieties. These include Daim Rose, F1 Golden, Gold Medal, Queen, Corus, Whisky, Rain Moor, Sun Gold, Queen, Manku, Smile Bright, Pitcher White, Summer Gold, The Prince, Sun Flare, Cardier, Black Tiger, Panama Lake, Golden Mary, Samdha, Miniature Pink, Bajazzo Belle, Angelica, Paul Gauguin, Semi Bajazzo, Tibet, White Miniature, Bajazzo and Fire in Ice.

The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) is also continuing its citywide cleanliness operations, which include routine sweeping and road washing.

According to a spokesperson, LWMC Chief Executive Officer Babar Sahib Din inspected various sanitation points on Monday. He checked the cleanliness arrangements, verified worker attendance, and spoke to residents to get feedback on the hygiene conditions in their neighbourhoods.

He directed the field teams to make sure commercial areas are cleared of solid waste before 8 am every morning.

During his visit, the CEO reviewed sanitation work on Circular Road, Azadi Flyover, Data Darbar, Bhatti Chowk, Katchery Chowk, the NAB Office, Thokar Niaz Baig, and Canal Road.

Sanitation workers have also been deployed around the Expo Centre, G1 Market, Doctors’ Hospital, and Jinnah Hospital.

Mr. Din added that LWMC is conducting regular washing and water-sprinkling on major roads, particularly at the city’s entry and exit points, to help curb smog. He stated that field officers are ensuring full attendance of sanitary staff.

He also appealed to citizens to support the LWMC teams in keeping their surroundings clean.
