Matric and Inter Students Protest Against E-Marking in Sindh

Protests erupted in multiple districts of Sindh after students rejected the recently announced Class IX and XI results prepared through an e-marking system.

Demonstrations were reported in Sanghar, Shahdadpur, Shahpur Chakar, and Sakrand, where students accused the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Shaheed Benazirabad (BISESBA) of mismanagement and manipulating marks.

The BISESBA, along with Sukkur and Larkana divisions, had introduced e-marking for SSC Part One and HSC Part One results, which were announced on Tuesday. While Chairman Dr. Asif Ali Memon described the automated system as a major achievement, many students expressed dissatisfaction, claiming that the system unfairly affected their results.

In Sanghar, students from Pir Syed Sabghatullah Shah Shaheed Government Degree College boycotted classes and marched through the streets. Protesters, including Abdul Jabbar Mari, Abdul Rahman Laghari, Siraj Wassan, Farhan Laghari, and others, said they had consistently performed well in internal assessments and examinations, but the awarded marks did not reflect their efforts.

They warned that the results could jeopardize their chances of gaining admission to universities and accused the board of using students as guinea pigs for the new system.

The students also alleged that corruption within the board had affected the outcome, with bribery influencing the evaluation process. They demanded the immediate removal of the chairman and controller and called for a rechecking of answer scripts.

Similar protests took place in Shahdadpur, where students from Govt Boys Degree College, led by Nasir Khuso, Younus Sanjrani, and Roshan Khaskheli, rallied outside the press club, claiming that even high-performing students had been awarded low marks.

In Sakrand, hundreds of students staged marches from Govt Degree College Sakrand to Sahafi Chowk, demanding transparency and re-evaluation of the results. Students and teachers from Govt Boys Higher Secondary School, Panhal Khan Chandio, also held a rally at the MPA House, insisting that the board chairman personally oversee rechecking and investigate alleged discrepancies.

In Shahpur Chakar, students organized a protest march from their college to the local press club, accusing the board of intentionally awarding low marks to prevent them from pursuing higher education.

The protests continued for several hours, drawing support from civil society and educators, who described the students’ grievances as legitimate and urged the board to introduce immediate reforms in the evaluation process. The students appealed to the Sindh Chief Minister, Education Minister, and senior officials to ensure the rechecking of all answer scripts and uphold transparency in the marking system.
