Hundreds of Citizens Arrested in Punjab Over 11 Traffic Violations

The Punjab Traffic Police reported major enforcement activity on November 27, issuing 40,000 challans across the province in a single day under the uniform traffic law.

According to the official data, 5,034 helmet violations were recorded, resulting in Rs. 9,896,000 in fines and 1,612 vehicles impounded, with two FIRs and two arrests. The police conducted a strict crackdown on one-way violations, issuing 1,870 challans, imposing Rs. 2,912,000 in fines, impounding 595 vehicles, filing 163 FIRs, and arresting 153 people.

For passengers riding on bus rooftops or hanging behind vehicles, officers issued 630 challans, imposed Rs. 4,700,000 in fines, impounded 216 vehicles, registered four FIRs, and made four arrests. Under unsafe vehicle enforcement, 812 challans were issued with Rs. 322,100 in fines, 222 vehicles impounded, 20 FIRs, and 20 arrests.

Traffic police fined over-dimensional and overloaded vehicles with 2,743 challans, collecting Rs. 1,059,100 in fines, impounding 607 vehicles, filing 24 FIRs, and arresting 23 drivers. For unauthorized or missing number plates, officials recorded 2,026 challans, imposed Rs. 474,400 in fines, impounded 477 vehicles, filed two FIRs, and made two arrests.

A major action took place against smoke-emitting vehicles, resulting in 3,795 challans, Rs. 7,650,000 in fines, 985 impounded vehicles, one FIR, and one arrest. Police cited 1,512 juvenile drivers, collecting Rs. 488,300 in fines, impounding 453 vehicles, filing one FIR, and arresting one individual.

For driving without a license, officers issued 6,131 challans, collected Rs. 1,905,700 in fines, impounded 1,126 vehicles, filed 79 FIRs, and arrested 79 people. Unregulated parking violations resulted in 718 challans, 395 impounded vehicles, 17 FIRs, and 17 arrests.

Authorities also took action against beggars, drug addicts, and vagrants, recording 10 impoundments, 10 FIRs, and 10 arrests, though no monetary fines were listed. Additionally, 14,630 challans were issued for other violations.

In total, the Punjab Traffic Police collected Rs. 34 million in fines, impounded 6,690 vehicles, registered 324 FIRs, and arrested 314 individuals in the single-day operation.
