RDA Installs New Signboards in Famous Housing Scheme

The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has installed signboards on mortgage and transfer-deed plots in the University Town Housing Scheme as part of a new transparency drive, a spokesperson said on Friday.

The Land Directorate team placed the signboards on areas reserved for public buildings, including a school, a graveyard and a masjid. Officials said the move follows instructions from Director General Kinza Murtaza to raise public awareness about the status of mortgaged and transferred plots.

In a separate action, the RDA Enforcement Squad sealed an under-construction building in Bahria Town Phase 8 after detecting illegal construction. The authority also submitted an application to the Station House Officer Rawat for registration of an FIR against Bahria Town Chief Executive Officer Ali Riaz, building owner Shafqat Ali and contractor Mushtaq.

RDA said the construction was being carried out without the required approvals and no-objection certificates, which is a violation of the Punjab Development of Cities Act 1976 and the RDA Building and Zoning Regulations 2021.

According to the spokesperson, the Director General directed the Land Use and Building Control Wing to act firmly against encroachments and unauthorized commercial and residential activities.

She also ordered a detailed survey of fees and documentation needed to regularize illegal buildings in RDA-controlled areas. The latest operations were supervised by Director Land and In-Charge Enforcement Ghazanfar Ali Awan along with assistant directors and field staff.
