Islamabad’s long-awaited cricket stadium has taken a major step forward after the Capital Development Authority (CDA) formally approved the project’s cost and confirmed Sector D-12, along Iran Avenue, as the final site for the venue.
Construction is scheduled to kick off in mid-January, with the grey structure targeted for completion within six to eight months.
According to officials, the federal government has directed the CDA to deliver the entire project within a year as part of its broader plan to develop a world-class sports facility in the capital.
The new stadium will be designed on the lines of top international grounds in Dubai, aiming to position Islamabad as a prime destination for global cricket events and reduce the workload on existing venues across the country.
Sources involved in the project say the selected location on the outskirts of the city will help minimize traffic disruptions during major matches, especially on days when strict security protocols are in place for visiting international teams.
The development blueprint also includes a luxury hotel next to the stadium, ensuring teams and officials can stay within walking distance of the venue.
In addition, modern security systems, improved transport routes, and upgraded parking infrastructure will be integrated into the complex, features that mirror global standards followed in leading sports hubs across the UAE.

Don’t build it in or near D12 or any sector of Islamabad. It should be build near the new airport so the whole city is spared in case of strict security arrangements. The peculiar security situation in our Country demands the new stadiums should be built near the airports and in the outskirts of metropolitan areas. We all witnessed the traffic mess created by the recent cricket matches held in Rawalpindi making the daily life miserable of citizens. When will we wake up and do something right the first time. Wake up CDA
What a waste of money. Hospitals don’t have medicines and machinery available. Equipment is old. Government schools don’t have even basic facilities but they want to waste money on stadiums to make these cricker players happy.
With level of redundant technical capacity at CDA and NRSPAK rushing such a project trying to make a replica of Dubai stadium will be another disaster. International design bidding together with a Environmental Impact Assessment should be essential prerequisite.
