The crackdown on petrol pumps in Karachi began on Wednesday as the Sindh government moved to take strict action against fuel stations that are not dispensing full quantities to consumers.
Officials said the drive aims to protect the public from being short-measured at petrol pumps operating in the district East and the district South of the port city.
According to details, the Department of Price and Dispatch has issued instructions to its director general and controller to carry out surprise inspections.
Teams have been told to secretly measure petrol and diesel at various fuel stations and verify whether customers are receiving the correct amount. The letter from the department further directs officials to use specialized measuring equipment.
Petrol pumps found cheating customers will face immediate fines, and their outlets will be sealed on the spot.
