The Sindh police have decided to expand Karachi’s faceless e-challan system to additional districts after reviewing its early success in improving traffic enforcement.
Inspector General Ghulam Nabi Memon approved the move during a meeting at the Central Police Office in Karachi, where senior officers, Additional IGs, and representatives from the Safe City Authority briefed him on the project’s progress.
Officials reported that preparations are complete for introducing the Traffic Road Accident and Control System (TRACS) and installing enforcement cameras in multiple districts. In the first phase, the system will roll out in Thatta, Khairpur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Mirpurkhas, Tando Muhammad Khan, and Larkana.
According to the DIG Traffic, divisional officers have confirmed that cameras and TRACS technology are ready for deployment. The system can identify number plate violations and other traffic offenses, allowing challans to be issued electronically without roadside interaction.
Service centers have already been set up across the districts, and staff training will begin shortly. IG Memon directed all DIGs to run an extensive public awareness campaign before full implementation.
He urged officers to work with local administrations, media, and community groups to educate the public about TRACS and highlight key rules such as wearing helmets, using seat belts, and installing proper number plates.
He said the system’s success would depend on strong public engagement and compliance with traffic laws.
