Pakistan is set to distribute 700,000 Google Chromebooks to students across the country under the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, Chairman Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan announced on Friday.
Speaking at an event, Mashhood said the initiative aims to strengthen digital learning and provide students with modern educational tools to meet national and global challenges.
He described youth as Pakistan’s greatest asset and said the programme seeks to unlock their full potential through technology-driven education.
He revealed that an organisation is supplying the Chromebooks for students enrolled in schools, colleges, and universities nationwide.
The devices will give learners access to online platforms, updated academic resources, and software that supports research and creative learning.
Mashhood said the distribution will take place in phases to ensure transparency and fair allocation based on institutional needs and readiness.
A national monitoring system will track usage and outcomes to ensure effective classroom and remote learning.
The chairman said the programme will help bridge the digital divide, particularly between urban and rural areas, and confirmed that students from Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan will also benefit.
He added that growing confidence among overseas Pakistanis is boosting investment in education and skills development, creating jobs and opportunities in emerging sectors.
Mashhood concluded that the Chromebook Programme reflects the government’s long-term commitment to modernising education and building a digitally empowered future for Pakistan’s youth.
