Punjab Food Authority Seizes 4,000 KG of Dead Chicken

Punjab Food Authority (PFA) food safety teams carried out early-morning raids at Tolinton Market in Lahore, inspecting 36 meat warehouses, suppliers, and shops, officials said.

During the operation, the authority fined two meat units heavily and issued improvement notices to 10 others.

Inspectors recovered a large quantity of diseased and dead chickens, prompting immediate action. More than 4,000 kilograms of unhealthy poultry were destroyed on the spot.

According to PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javed, a veterinary specialist present during the inspection declared the chickens unfit for human consumption after a detailed examination.

He said the diseased poultry was intended to be slaughtered and supplied to markets, but timely action by the meat safety team prevented its distribution.

The DG warned that consumption of diseased and substandard meat can cause serious illnesses, adding that profit-driven mafias sell disease instead of food.

He urged citizens to verify food quality before purchase and report violations to the PFA helpline 1223.

Muhammad Asim Javed said that on the directives of the Chief Minister of Punjab, food authority teams are conducting continuous operations to ensure safe and quality food, stressing that strict action under a zero-tolerance policy against health hazards will continue.
