Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman is Now Dr. Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman

The governor of Sindh has awarded an honorary doctorate degree to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman in recognition of his role in promoting political unity and improving Pakistan’s relations with other Muslim countries.

According to the announcement, the degree acknowledges what was described as Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman’s exemplary contribution to political cohesion at home and to better engagement with the wider Islamic world.

Speaking at the ceremony, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori said that Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman had “always found a way to resolve issues” and consistently played a positive role in the national political arena. He remarked that whenever political parties face difficulties, “they end up knocking on Maulana’s door.”

The governor added that by conferring this honorary doctorate, “from today he is Dr. Maulana Fazlur Rehman.” Tessori said he had placed “two or three requests” before the JUI-F leader, noting that whenever religion and Islam are discussed in Pakistan, Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman’s religious standing is well known.

Tessori went on to say that global powers often view Pakistan’s religious community as a symbol of “fear and intimidation,” but insisted that the religious class in the country stands firmly by its principles. He noted that Pakistan is currently trying to pull itself out of a severe economic crisis.

Referring to regional security, the governor said that on 10 May, Pakistan had “defeated India and restored a balance of power in the region.”

He further claimed that militants described as Kharijites are carrying out acts of terrorism in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and alleged that their networks have links to Afghanistan.
