Mohammad Rizwan Steps Down as Multan Sultans Captain Ahead of PSL 11

Mohammad Rizwan has resigned from his role as captain of Multan Sultans ahead of the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) season.

The announcement was made following the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) decision to run the Multan-based franchise for the upcoming 2026 season.

According to PCB plans, Multan Sultans will be managed directly by the board for one season before being put up for auction and handed over to a new owner in 2027.

During this interim period, the PCB is expected to review the team’s leadership and squad composition, which could result in a new captain being appointed and changes to the roster of senior players.

Currently, Rizwan is participating in the ongoing 2025/26 Big Bash League (BBL 15) in Australia, representing the Melbourne Renegades, as he awaits developments regarding the franchise’s future in Pakistan.

The move comes as part of a broader strategy by the PCB to stabilize the franchise during its transition year while preparing for a smooth ownership transfer and refreshed team structure in 2027.

Meanwhile, the former Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen and the Tareen Group have formally stepped into the race for ownership of a new PSL franchise, following his exit from the Multan Sultans setup.

The Tareen Group has submitted the required documentation to bid for one of the two new PSL teams that will be auctioned on January 8, 2026, at the Islamabad Convention Centre.
