Direct Player Signings on Cards for PSL 2026

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is considering introducing a direct signing option alongside the traditional player draft for its 2026 edition.

Under the proposed system, a separate player pool will be created specifically for direct signings. Each franchise will be allowed to sign up to two players directly from this pool.

There will be no salary cap on these signings, giving teams full freedom to choose players of their choice from the designated pool.

Despite this possible addition, the draft system will continue as usual. Direct signings would work as an extra recruitment option rather than replacing the draft.

The aim is to give teams some flexibility to secure marquee players while still maintaining cost control and competitive balance through the draft format.

Earlier, some franchises had pushed for the PSL to adopt an IPL-style auction. They argued that an auction would be more exciting and would allow teams greater freedom to spend money and attract top international players.

However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) believes the draft system plays an important role in keeping the league balanced. Officials believe that a full auction could widen the financial gap between teams and negatively impact competition.

PSL 11 is expected to be a major season. The league will expand to eight teams, with two new franchises to be auctioned in Islamabad on January 8.

The foreign player registration window for PSL 2026 is also open, giving international cricketers more roster spots and earning opportunities in the upcoming season.
