The Islamabad administration has revised the deadline for mandatory M-Tag registration, granting motorists additional time to comply with the requirement.
According to a notification issued by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, vehicle owners now have until January 15, 2026, to install M-Tags.
Earlier, authorities had announced that enforcement against vehicles without M-Tags would begin on January 1, urging residents to complete registration promptly.
The extension has been provided to accommodate citizens who have yet to complete the process and to ease pressure on registration facilities.
Officials have once again advised motorists to visit the M-Tag registration center at Shakarparian Parade Ground as soon as possible, warning that registration centers typically face heavy footfall as deadlines approach. To manage the expected rush, the administration has strengthened arrangements at the facility by setting up additional counters and deploying extra staff to speed up processing.
The Islamabad administration said the M-Tag system is being implemented to regulate vehicle entry and improve traffic management across the capital.
Once enforcement begins, vehicles without valid M-Tags will be restricted from entering designated areas, and action will be taken against violators.
Authorities urged citizens not to wait until the final days, cautioning that despite improved facilities, large crowds could still lead to delays. Vehicle owners have also been advised to bring all required documents to ensure smooth and timely registration.

Do these people stop and think of their deadlines? Is it doable or possible?
Changing deadlines is the main reason people don’t act.
It is suggested to provide dedicated counters facility for senior citizens
The most useless and un-efficient point is Jinnah park. Each vehicle takes 15 minutes with long lines stretching to 100 cars by 9 am.

Just another drama for looting the public … can anyone tell what’s the purpose of the M-tag for those who r not using any toll plazas? … if it’s just for identification then what’s the purpose of the number plate for which people pay a huge price in the form of registration fee & withholding tax proportional to the price of the car … if the number plate is just for decoration then no need to get it for such a huge price
number plate is not electronic, while m-tag has RFID chip read by scanner, I assume the law enforcement team will allow unrestricted entry to ISB with m-tag because they have already installed scanners at entry points.
What about rickshaws motorbikes etc. M tag should be optional not by force. Every few months they come up with a new gimmick to extort money. The middle class is thinning out and leaving their homeland at the behest of a few.
This extension is a good step, as many motorists were struggling to meet the earlier deadline. Along with M-Tag registration, vehicle owners should also think about overall vehicle monitoring and security, especially in cities like Islamabad where enforcement is becoming more tech-driven.
A GPS tracking system can help motorists keep track of vehicle movement, receive alerts, and add an extra layer of safety alongside M-Tag compliance. I’ve seen solutions like Sughraz Track (https://sughraztrack.com
) being used for real-time tracking and theft prevention, which can be useful for daily commuters as well as fleet owners.
Hopefully, these measures together will improve traffic management and vehicle security in the capital.
