Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah on Wednesday inaugurated a double-decker bus service in Karachi.
During the ceremony, officials briefed Sharjeel Inam Memon on the features of the buses. Speaking on the occasion, he said the government had promised the public double-decker buses and was introducing projects aimed at benefiting the maximum number of people.
He said the double-decker bus route spans 22 kilometers, with fares ranging from Rs. 80 to Rs. 120. He said the service will initially operate from Malir to Shahrah-e-Faisal and added that authorities aim to expand the service to more roads across the city.
Sharjeel Inam Memon said the government is providing subsidies on bus fares and is increasing public facilities on a daily basis. He said the government plans to expand transport facilities across Sindh in the new year.
He said more than 125,000 passengers travel daily on the Peoples Bus Service, while about 65,000 commuters use the Green Line bus service each day. He added that work on the Red Line BRT has resumed.
The minister said various departments are working together to improve Karachi’s road infrastructure. He said the government has allocated Rs. 9 billion for industrial areas and added that the Shahrah-e-Bhutto project has been completed as a state-of-the-art facility for the public.
