Pakistan’s tennis star Mikaeel Ali Baig has achieved a major milestone in junior tennis by winning the USTA Level 1 Winter Nationals Doubles Title in Orlando.
Baig secured the title alongside his Canadian-Hungarian partner Rafael, after a tough, two-hour final. The pair came from one set down to defeat Akshay (USA/India) and Ivan (USA/Russia) with a scoreline of 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
The tournament was highly competitive throughout the week, with demanding quarterfinal and semifinal matches leading into the final.
After dropping the opening set in the championship match, Baig and his partner stayed composed, trusted their game plan, and fought for every point to complete the comeback.
Reflecting on the achievement, Mikaeel Ali Baig said the tournament brings together the best junior players and requires focus and determination in every match.
“After losing the first set, we stayed calm and fought for every point. Winning the Gold Ball is a dream, and I’m proud to bring this title back to Pakistan,” he said.
The USTA Level 1 Winter Nationals is considered one of the most prestigious events in junior tennis. It features the top 128 players on the USTA circuit, along with strong international competitors. Winning the tournament earns the Gold Ball, one of the highest honors in junior tennis.
