Authorities have estimated the cost of organizing a three-day Basant festival in Lahore at Rs1 billion. The administration has decided to decorate the city like a bride, with extensive arrangements for decorations, lighting, and administrative measures.
Citizens will be provided with free public transport during the Basant celebrations. Work has also begun on a comprehensive security and traffic management plan, while the administration has initiated Basant surveillance measures across the city.
For the event, registration fees ranging from Rs1,000 to Rs5,000 have been fixed for sponsors, traders, and buyers. More than 400 kite makers have registered on the online Basant portal so far.
Under the Punjab Kite Flying Ordinance, the use of spools (charkhi) and sharp or chemical-coated kite strings is strictly prohibited. Only approved and safe materials will be allowed during the Basant festival.
