Sindh Announces Strict Punishment for Transporters

The Sindh government has warned transporters that authorities will seize vehicles if they fail to strictly follow traffic laws and the conditions of route permits.

Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stressed that all vehicles must operate within the prescribed speed limits. He urged drivers to avoid overloading, wrong overtaking, and reckless or high-speed driving.

The minister said transporters must also comply with axle-load limits set under the National Highway Safety Ordinance.

He announced that the use of gas will be banned in inter-district transport as well as in school and college vehicles.

Sharjeel Memon said emergency exits and first aid boxes will be mandatory in all public service vehicles. He added that only vehicles with proper documentation and drivers holding valid and genuine licenses will be allowed to operate.

For long routes, the minister said vehicles travelling a distance of 322 kilometers must have two eligible, licensed drivers.

He directed transporters and operators to obtain their route permits by February 28.

Sharjeel Memon warned that authorities will launch a crackdown after the deadline. Vehicles violating the rules will be confiscated, FIRs will be registered against operators, and the excise department will suspend vehicle registrations in cases of non-compliance.
