Pakistani Star Batter Forced to Retire Out During BBL Match

Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan was forced to retire out in a surprising moment during the ongoing 33rd match of the 2025/26 Big Bash League (BBL 15) between the Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Thunder.

Rizwan was called back to the dugout in the 17.6th over of the Renegades’ innings, a move that appeared tactical rather than injury-related.

There was no visible sign of discomfort, and the decision caught many viewers off guard as he walked off despite being set at the crease.

Before retiring, Rizwan scored 26 runs off 23 balls, hitting two fours and one six, which surprisingly was the only six he struck so far during the BBL 15.

The late-innings change looked like a calculated attempt to inject more power into the final overs, with the Renegades seemingly opting for a batter better suited to six-hitting in the last two overs. Will Sutherland came in to replace him.

However, the move backfired almost immediately. Sutherland faced just one delivery, scored one run, and was run out in chaotic fashion.

After digging out a wide yorker back toward the bowler, the ball brushed Daniel Sams’ fingertips before hitting the stumps at Sutherland’s end. Sutherland was caught well short of his crease and had to depart moments after arriving.

The Melbourne Renegades finished their innings with a total of 170 runs with a loss of 8 wickets.
