The Punjab government has clarified the school reopening schedule after extending winter vacations by one week due to severe cold weather, ending uncertainty among students and parents.
Punjab Education Minister Sikandar Hayat said that all public and private schools across the province will reopen on January 19. He confirmed that the government will not extend winter vacations any further.
The minister said winter holidays began on December 20 and that students were granted a total of 30 days off during the season. He added that students have already availed 27 of those holidays and will return to schools as scheduled once the remaining days conclude.
He stated that the education department will proceed with the academic calendar without any additional changes and urged parents and students to prepare for the resumption of classes.
Authorities had earlier extended winter vacations after a prolonged cold spell affected several parts of Punjab. The extension led to widespread speculation about a possible further delay in reopening schools.
The education minister’s statement has now removed the uncertainty, confirming that schools will reopen on January 19 with no change to the announced schedule.
