Residents of Lahore are likely to enjoy a long weekend in the first week of February on the occasion of Basant. According to sources, up to four consecutive holidays are being considered in the provincial capital.
Officials said February 5 is already a public holiday due to Kashmir Day, while Saturday and Sunday are regular weekly holidays. The administration is now also considering declaring Friday as an additional holiday. If approved, Lahoris will get a four-day break.
Authorities say the purpose of the extra holiday is to ensure that Basant celebrations remain safe and memorable. The holidays are also expected to reduce traffic congestion in the city and limit unnecessary motorcycle movement on the roads.
It may be recalled that Basant festivities in Lahore have already been announced for February 6, 7, and 8. The potential long weekend will allow citizens to celebrate the festival with greater ease and enjoyment.
