The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) has imposed a three-year ban on the fresh affiliation of law colleges with local universities recognized by the council, warning that violations could lead to de-recognition.
The decision follows an amendment to Rule 20 of the Pakistan Bar Council Legal Education Rules.
Under the revised rule, no Pakistani university or degree-awarding institution recognized by the PBC may grant affiliation to any law college from January 15, 2026, until the completion of the three years.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the PBC secretary said all registrars of universities and degree-awarding institutions across the country have been formally informed of the amendment.
Chairmen of law college affiliation committees have also received official intimation.
The council made it clear that any university or institution found to be affiliating with law colleges in violation of the ban will face de-recognition.
However, the PBC clarified that applications for affiliation received before January 15, 2026, will be processed in accordance with existing rules, while no new applications will be entertained during the ban period.
