Electricity prices are likely to increase by Rs. 0.48 per unit for one month under the monthly fuel price adjustment mechanism.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency has filed a request with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) seeking an increase in electricity tariffs for December. NEPRA is scheduled to hold a hearing on the CPPA application.
According to the petition, a total of 8.487 billion units of electricity were generated in December, while 8.208 billion units were supplied to distribution companies.
The CPPA said the average cost of electricity during December stood at Rs. 9.62 per unit. In terms of the energy mix, hydel power accounted for 18.07 percent of total electricity generation during the month. Electricity generation from local coal stood at 13.99 percent, while imported coal contributed 10.13 percent.
Power generation from natural gas was recorded at 11.20 percent, while imported LNG accounted for 17.24 percent of total output. Nuclear power contributed the largest share, at 25.05 percent of total electricity generation in December.
If approved by NEPRA, the proposed adjustment will be passed on to consumers in their electricity bills for one month, adding to the cost burden amid already high power tariffs.

Why pull the stunt of lowering the cost in the first place then? To make headlines? Even when the price is lowered, sales tax is increased instead. There is no benefit to EUs just games played with people’s minds.
All is jugglery of words for looting the consumers and plundering wealth
Instead of increasing price, government need to push these power generation companies to reduce production costs of energy & government need to reduce taxes on electricity to give relief to industries, in results exports/ production will increase & side by side employment opportunities & tax collection of government will increase
