The National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior on Tuesday directed the immediate removal of unnecessary internal checkposts in Islamabad, citing the inconvenience they cause to citizens.
Chairing the meeting, MNA Raja Khurram Shahzad Nawaz stressed that police personnel must maintain professional conduct at all entry and exit points, and urged the rapid implementation of digital traffic management solutions.
The committee reviewed traffic congestion in the federal capital, noting that high daily traffic, ongoing development projects, and security checkposts were major contributors.
Specific problem areas highlighted included Lathrar Road at Taramri Chowk, Ali Pur Bank stop, IGP Road, Constitution Avenue, Chungi No. 26, and Airport Road.
Authorities were also asked to equip police at checkpoints with laptops or digital devices for vehicle identification.
The DIG Traffic/CTO Islamabad has been tasked with submitting a compliance and progress report in the next meeting, while the Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control was advised to address manpower shortages in the Islamabad Traffic Police.
