Pakistan continued its strong showing in international squash as Muhammad Asim Khan and Noor Zaman advanced to the round of 16 at the Squash on Fire Open, a bronze-level PSA World Tour event being held in Washington, United States.
Muhammad Asim Khan secured his place in the last 16 after a hard-fought five-game victory against England’s Nick Wall. The match lasted 63 minutes and proved to be a closely contested battle.
After losing the opening game 5–11, Asim Khan responded with confidence and control, winning the next two games 11–7 and 11–6. Wall forced a deciding game by taking the fourth 12–10, but Asim Khan held his nerve in the final game to win 11–8 and close out the match 3–2.
Following this win, Asim Khan is set to face England’s Declan James in the round of 16.
Soon after, fellow Pakistani Noor Zaman also booked his spot in the round of 16 with a strong performance in the first round. Noor defeated Xian Siow 3–1 in a match that lasted 47 minutes.
He narrowly lost the opening game 11–13 but quickly turned the momentum in his favor, winning the next three games 11–9, 11–7, and 11–5 to seal the victory.
Noor Zaman will next take on England’s Patrick Rooney in the round of 16.
With both players advancing, Pakistan maintains a strong presence at the tournament as the competition moves into the knockout stages.
