Redmi has expanded its Turbo lineup in China with the launch of the Turbo 5, arriving alongside the recently announced Turbo 5 Max. The standard model features a smaller battery and introduces the new MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra chipset, making it the first smartphone globally to use this processor.
Design and Display
The Redmi Turbo 5 features a metal frame paired with a glass back panel, matching the overall build approach of the Turbo 5 Max. It measures 8.18mm in thickness and weighs 204 grams.
On the front, the phone sports a 6.59-inch AMOLED display, slightly smaller than the Max variant. The panel offers a Full-HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and peak brightness of up to 3,500 nits. It is a 12-bit display with support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Color options include Auspicious Cloud White, Light Sea Green, and Shadow Black.
Internals and Software
At its core, the Turbo 5 runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra chipset. It is paired with LPDDR5 Ultra RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. The phone uses the same vapor chamber cooling system found in the Turbo 5 Max to manage heat during sustained performance.
The device ships with Android 16-based Xiaomi HyperOS 3. Additional features include an in-display optical fingerprint scanner, infrared sensor, stereo speakers, 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, GPS, and NFC.
Cameras
The Redmi Turbo 5 is equipped with a dual rear camera setup led by a 50MP Sony IMX882 primary sensor. An 8MP ultra-wide camera accompanies it.
For selfies and video calls, the phone includes a 20MP front-facing camera.
Battery and Pricing
The Turbo 5 features a 7,560 mAh battery that supports 100W wired fast charging. It also offers 27W reverse wired charging, matching the capability of the Turbo 5 Max.
Pricing starts at $290 for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage variant. The 12GB/512GB model is priced at $330. The 16GB/256GB configuration also costs $330, while the top-end 16GB/512GB variant is priced at $370.
