The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the Indian men’s cricket team will fully comply with International Cricket Council (ICC) procedures for its group-stage match against Pakistan at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
India and Pakistan are scheduled to face each other on February 15 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. However, the Government of Pakistan announced on Sunday that while Pakistan will participate in the tournament, its team will not take the field against India for the group-stage fixture.
Despite Pakistan’s position, sources within the BCCI stated that India is prepared to proceed according to the official tournament schedule and meet all formal obligations set by the ICC.
“India will travel to Sri Lanka on 15th February and follow ICC protocol. They will practice as per schedule, do a press conference and reach the stadium according to time and wait for the match referee to call off the match,” a BCCI source said.
The development comes amid a strong response from the ICC, which has already issued a warning to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The world governing body emphasized that selective participation in ICC tournaments goes against the spirit of global cricket events.
Within hours of the Pakistani government’s announcement, the ICC released a sharply worded statement highlighting potential long-term consequences for Pakistan cricket and the global cricket framework.
The ICC further urged the PCB to seek solutions that maintain the tournament’s integrity and ensure fairness for all parties involved.
