Motorcyclists Face FIRs for Riding Without Safety Rods in Lahore

Police have launched legal action against motorcyclists who failed to install safety rods, a measure introduced to improve public safety ahead of Basant.

Sources said police have registered cases at multiple police stations under Section 188 on complaints filed by police officials. Authorities said violators will now face legal proceedings in addition to fines.

Last month, Lahore Capital City Police Officer Bilal Siddique Kamyana had announced that police would begin fining motorcyclists from February 1 for riding without safety rods. At the time, he said the move formed part of Basant safety arrangements.

Under the initiative, police planned to install safety rods on one million motorcycles free of cost and distributed awareness pamphlets among citizens. The CCPO had also reiterated a zero-tolerance policy on aerial firing and warned of strict action against anyone found violating safety regulations.
