Multiple Karachi Areas to Face Severe Water Shortage

The Karachi Water and Sanitation Corporation (KWSC) announced that water supply to several parts of the city will remain suspended or reduced for four days starting Monday due to repair work on a major transmission line.

A KWSC spokesperson said leakage was found in the 84-inch diameter Phase-I main water line located in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 19. The corporation decided to carry out urgent repairs to fix the issue and stabilize the water supply system, particularly ahead of Ramazan.

Repair work will begin at 12:00 noon on Monday and is expected to continue for up to 96 hours. KWSC said specialized technical teams will remain present at the site throughout the operation to complete the work within the scheduled timeframe.

To facilitate the repairs, water supply from Dhabeji will be temporarily reduced, resulting in a shortfall of around 200 million gallons per day. Karachi normally receives approximately 650 million gallons of water daily, but supply will drop to about 450 million gallons during the repair period.

The spokesperson clarified that water supply from Hub, Gharo, and other pumping stations will continue without interruption.

Due to the reduced supply, areas including Clifton, DHA, Korangi, Malir, Landhi, Shah Faisal, Gulshan, Jinnah, Chanesar, Saddar, and Lyari are expected to face water shortages. The Landhi and Sherpao hydrants will also remain closed during the repair work.

KWSC said the repairs are aimed at improving the city’s water transmission system and addressing longstanding leakage issues. Consumers have been advised to use water judiciously until normal supply is fully restored.
